About Tiberiu Olah
Tiberiu Olah Romanian composer, b. 2 January 1928, Arpăşel, Bihor County. He studied at the G. Dima Conservatory in Cluj-Napoca (1946-1949) with Max Eisikovits, Gh. Halmoş, etc., and at the P. I. Tchaikowsky Conservatory in Moscow (1949-1954) with E. Messner, D. Rogal-Levitzky, and E. Golubev. He studied electronic music at Siemens in Munich (1966). in Between 1966 and 1971 he participated in the Ferienkurse für neue Musik in Darmstadt , where several of his works were performed. He has been assistant (1954-1958), lecturer (1959-1974), associate professor (1974-1984), and full professor (since 1984) in the Composition Department of the University of Music in Bucharest. Author of a vast body of works covering all musical genres. His compositions have been performed in many international music centers, published by Editura Muzicală, Salabert, Schott, etc., and recorded by Electrecord, EMI, and other labels. He won the following prizes : *The George Enescu Prize of the Romanian Academy (1965); *the Order of the Workers class III (1966); *the International Koussevitzky Prize of the Jury of Disc Critics (1967) and *the Prize of the Koussevitzky Foundation, New York (1972); *the Prize of the U.C.M.R. (1974, 1981); * *1st Prize of the Song of Romania National Festival (1979, 1981); *Grand Prize of the U.C.M.R. for the entire work (1993).
