About kesswa
KESSWA (born Kesiena Wanogho) is a Detroit-based alternative/experimental singer-songwriter. Originally starting out a DJ and producer, KESSWA was dissatisfied with her music not having vocals, and decided to become a singer; taking vocal lessons to improve her craft and develop her sound. Kesswa started attending events around Detroit, meeting other artists in the area. One of those artists was the Mexico-based producer Askanse, who was spending time in the city. “Literally within minutes of meeting each other, we were on the same page musically,” recalls Kesswa. “Once we started jamming, recording, and making this music, I feel like we developed our own language.” Her debut EP, Soften, was released in November 2019, and was a blend of multiple elements, including drum and bass, jungle, electronica, alternative and soul.
