About josh canady
“Honesty and relevance are two things that must happen when writing and performing music, and I always strive to make them a part of what I do” Josh Canady achieves this in his debut CD “skeletons”. Titled for its simplicity “skeletons” is a CD stripped down to its acoustic roots, yet profound in its musical integrity. “When I write songs I normally dream them to be big productions. But I wanted my first CD to be a group of songs that are stripped to their skeletons musically. I want it to seem as if the audience is with me from the beginning as I write the song. As my music progresses, I want my audience to experience it from beginning to end. ” Writing, performing, and recording everything on the CD, Josh Canady is the first to admit that it wasn’t easy. “If I had to describe my recording process for this CD in one word it would be Ghetto. I am a struggling musician with not a lot of money and mediocre recording equipment. There are some timing issues, some vocal mistakes, and many things I would have like to be different, but I think there is beauty in that. There is beauty in very humble beginnings and making the best with the little you have. Doing everything from performing to mixing to designing the artwork for the CD has taught me about all of the hard work and even sacrifice that goes into even a little production. You do what you have to with whatever you have.“ Josh applies these same principles to his live shows. Opening for artists such as Watermark and Jennifer Knapp, Josh has been performing since he was 15. “I really take my shows seriously. It amazes me when people will give time out of their lives to come and hear me play some songs, and that’s something I don’t take lightly. I spend a lot of time and energy on each show, whether it’s a 30 minute set or a 90 minute set, I want the audience to feel like they have just been a part of something special. Working at a coffee house for 3 years, I saw a lot of local and national artists on stage as well as behind the scenes. You could immediately point out the real from the fake, the honest from the dishonest. I want people to see me as an honest artist, who truly cares about my craft and takes seriously the time that the audience is investing in me.” Playing in many bands throughout his high school and college years, both as lead singer and lead guitarist, Josh has seen his share of successful gigs and pure failures. “Every gig is a new opportunity to learn something new about your craft. The successes as well as the failures all make us who we are. As an artist I try to use everything I can to make me better at what I do. This practice has helped me in areas such as story telling, talking about songs, and even in how the business aspect works.” Recording a full band EP and full length acoustic album in the past year, as well as performing countless shows over the past 9 years, has shown Josh the value and hardships of making honest music. “Although I may only be scratching the surface, I feel like I am beginning to know the hardships that come with following a dream, doing something you believe in, and the rewards that come with that hardship. Nothing is ever as easy as it looks but there is beauty and reward in doing something you believe in, no matter how difficult. I believe in my music, I believe in what I am doing, and I intend to work very hard, to make music that is honest and relevant to all who come across it.” Josh Canady currently resides in Centreville Maryland and works as the Director of Innovative worship at Wye Bible Church as well as performing locally to promote his music. Upon Graduating from Washington Bible College with a B.A. Josh is looking to move to Nashville Tennessee in early 2007. ----------------------
