About fromis_9

Fromis 9 (Korean: 프로미스나인; styled in snake_case as fromis_9) are a South Korean girl group formed through the 2017 reality show "Idol School". The group currently consist of five members: Song Ha-young, Park Ji-won, Lee Chae-young, Lee Na-gyung, and Baek Ji-heon. They originally debuted as a nine-member group, with Jang Gyu-ri departing in July 2022, followed by Lee Sae-rom, Roh Ji-sun, and Lee Seo-yeon in February 2025. The group debuted on January 24, 2018, with the extended play "To. Heart". At the time, they were managed by Stone Music Entertainment with production by Pledis Entertainment. Their management later transferred to Off the Record Entertainment in September 2018, before moving to Pledis Entertainment in 2021. Following the expiration of their contracts with Pledis Entertainment at the end of 2024, five members signed with Asnd in January 2025 and continued group activities, releasing their sixth extended play "From Our 20's" in June 2025. The name "Fromis" was selected through suggestions by viewers of "Idol School" and chosen by CJ E&M. It is commonly interpreted as combining "From Idol School" and "Promise", reflecting the group’s stated aim to fulfil expectations. The suffix "9" was later added to represent the original number of members. In March 2017, it was announced that the television channel Mnet would launch "Idol School", a survival programme designed to form a new girl group. The show aired from July to September 2017, with the final line-up determined by viewer voting. The nine selected members were Roh Ji-sun, Song Ha-young, Lee Sae-rom, Lee Chae-young, Lee Na-gyung, Park Ji-won, Lee Seo-yeon, Baek Ji-heon, and Jang Gyu-ri. Following the show, the group appeared in the reality programme "Fromis' Room", documenting their preparations for debut. Prior to their official debut, the group released the digital single "Glass Shoes" in November 2017 and performed it at the 2017 Mnet Asian Music Awards and on the music programme "Music Bank". Their debut extended play "To. Heart" was released in January 2018 and reached number four on the Gaon Album Chart. In June 2018, they released their second extended play "To. Day", promoting as eight members while Jang Gyu-ri participated in the survival show "Produce 48". She later returned to the group. In October 2018, the group released the single album "From.9", featuring the lead single "Love Bomb". In June 2019, they released the single album "Fun Factory" with the lead track "Fun!", which reached number two on the Gaon Album Chart. Their third extended play "My Little Society" followed in September 2020, featuring "Feel Good (Secret Code)". In May 2021, they released the single album "9 Way Ticket", including the single "We Go". After transferring to Pledis Entertainment in August 2021, the group released the special single "Talk & Talk", which earned them their first music show win. In January 2022, they released their fourth extended play "Midnight Guest" with the lead single "DM". Their fifth extended play "From Our Memento Box" followed in June 2022, featuring "Stay This Way". Later that year, Jang Gyu-ri departed the group, reducing the line-up to eight members. In 2023, the group released their first studio album "Unlock My World". In August 2024, they released the single album "Supersonic", whose title track reached number two on South Korea’s Circle Chart. In late 2024, it was announced that the group’s contracts with Pledis Entertainment would expire at the end of the year, after which they released the single "From". In early 2025, five members continued activities under Asnd, while three members chose not to rejoin the group. The group resumed activities as a five-member act and released the extended play "From Our 20's" in June 2025, alongside the lead single "Like You Better", which achieved a music show win. They subsequently embarked on their first world tour, titled "Now Tomorrow". In December 2025, the group released the digital single "White Memories", a remake of the song by Kim Min-jong, which entered the top ten of the Circle Chart and also received a music show win. In February 2026, it was announced that the group would make their Japanese debut with the extended play "Like You Better (Japanese Ver.)", scheduled for release in April 2026.
