About Formerly Known as Oedipusaurus Rex

Formerly Known As Oedipusaurus Rex was started in 1996 by college buddies Kenji Baugham and Padgett Arango. Soon, Kenji's life-long friend, Margaret Brunjes, joined the band as well. After recording a number of songs in a wide variety of genres, they decided they had best come up with a name. Fortunately, Kenji and Padgett were taking a creative writing course together and had discussed writing an epic postmodern fable in which a young man is sent out to destroy the three titans of modernity: Jesusaurus Rex, Thesaurus Rex, and Oedipusaurus Rex. Of course, the story never got written, but they thought Oedipusaurus Rex was a great name for a band. Some thought it was altogether too dorky, so they settled on being Formerly Known As Oedipusaurus Rex and left it at that. With a fine name and a homemade cassette tape completed, FKAOR made its first live appearance at the Popfest in Pomona, wowing the crowd with its remarkably low-key, yet melodic, performance. Since then, FKAOR has devoted its efforts to compiling material for its debut CD. Recorded, mixed, and mastered at Kenji's Eat at Joe's studios, the new album presents a wide variety of songs ranging from folky tunes to slick synth-pop gems. You can purchase the debut album by FKAOR from Twee Kitten or Insound.
