About dj cecil
Born and raised in southern California, In 1990 introduced to his first rave in Los Angeles and instantly fell in love with the music and the scene. Calling phone lines, secret map points, dirty-ass warehouses, it was all part of the greatest thing ever experienced. Soon he purchased two of his favorite records at the time "EON - Spice" and "KLF - What Time Is Love". This naturally led to the purchase of turntables and mixer. In the begining he used tapes of his favorite DJs as mixing guides. In 1992 he got a job (more like an internship) at a night club where he learned the technical aspect of being a DJ. he was constantly experimenting with different ways of mixing music. After a couple of years of playing clubs from Santa Barbara to Ventura, he was able to get a job at the record store where he did most of my shopping, DMC Records on Melrose Ave in Los Angeles. It was during this time he was able to learn about all of the different styles of dance music (before that, he was one of the typical "it sounds like boom boom, beep, boom" customer). Here he made friends with the DJs in Los Angeles, some of which were already big names and some who eventually became big names. It was really nice to work at a record store, get promos from producers, be on Thee-o's Biohazard label, and DJ in the Los Angeles area. In 1995 a friend that had moved to Tennessee gave a mix tape to a promoter who booked Cecil to play a Memphis party. The weekend spent there was so much fun and the scene was so different that he went home with the idea of moving out east to experience new parties and meet new people. While living in Memphis Cecil played regularly at a couple of the clubs and most of the big parties. His name got out and soon was booked all over the place from New Orleans to Baltimore. A few years later he ended up in Baton Rouge. This gave him the chance to hang out in New Orleans, and made it possible to play at parties in Memphis as well as some events in Louisiana and on the techno show at the LSU radio station. Unfortunately working the 9 to 5 turned into the 9 to midnight and most of the time the records just sat collecting dust. In 2004 he moved back to TN, this time to Nashville and has started playing again. 2011, now using 4 decks, planning on releasing mixes much more frequently with as many hidden tricks as possible in them for your enjoyment. contact- smacktheclown@gmail.com
