About andymori
andymori (アンディモリ) was a Japanese indie rock band from Tokyo formed in 2007. (Hiroki Gotou) History: 2007–2009: Formation and Early Years The band formed in 2007 in Tokyo and began performing in live-houses. Their name “andymori” is a merging of the name Andy Warhol and the Latin phrase “memento mori”. In October 2008 they released their first EP “アンディとロックとベンガルトラとウィスキー” (Andy to Rock to Bengal Tora to Whisky) under the label Youth Records. Their first big event was the Fuji Rock Festival in 2008, where they performed on the new artist stage. In February 2009 they issued their self-titled full album “andymori”. They performed at major summer festivals such as Fuji Rock Festival in 2008 and in 2009 at events including Summer Sonic. In October, the band held their first one man live, and featured on the 10 year anniversary tribute album for Quruli. 2010–2013: Growth, Line-Up Change and Peak In 2010 they released their second album “ファンファーレと熱狂” (Fanfare to Nekkyō). Prior to its release, they were picked as one of the iTunes Japan "Sound of 2010" break-through artists, and their video for "Follow Me" was nominated for the Best New Artist award for the 2010 Space Shower Music Video Awards. The album has so far reached #9 on the Oricon albums daily charts. Also that year drummer Hiroki Gotō departed and Kenji Okayama joined, with his first show in December 2010. The band played overseas for the first time in Canada in May 2010 as part of “Next Music from Tokyo!!!”. At the beginning of 2011, they got the Grande Prize at the 3rd CD Shop Awards and released a digital single called "兄弟", donating all the funds that came from it to the reconstruction of Japan after March 11's tsunami and earthquake. Their third album, "革命", was released soon after, in June; it reached the 8th position on the Oricon daily album charts. On 2012, they had plans to release their 4th album, "光", at May 2nd (it was originally planned to be released in March 3rd, but was postponed), and perform a Zepp Tour in order to promote it. 2013–2014: Final Album and Disbandment Their fifth and final studio album “宇宙の果てはこの目の前に (Uchū no Hate wa Kono Me no Mae ni)” was released on June 26, 2013. The band announced their breakup and embarked on a farewell tour, culminating in a final performance at Nippon Budokan on September 24, 2014. Musical style and influences: andymori played energetic indie rock blending elements of pop rock and alternative rock. At live shows they tapped into youthful urgency and melodic hooks. Critics noted that on the “光” album they incorporated pop-rock, hand-claps, horns and folk-inspired touches. They are often cited among the influential Japanese indie acts of their era, with their style inspiring newer bands in the scene. About the members: Following the disbandment, Sōhei Oyamada went on to solo work. He has released music solo under 小山田壮平/Oyamada Sohei (albums in 2020 and 2024). Bassist Hiroshi Fujiwara plays bass in Souhei Oyamada's solo band and is a support member of 銀杏BOYZ. Hiroki Goto worked as a drummer and guitarist/vocalist for the band 銀杏BOYZ. After the band's disbandment, he became a member of the band AL. He also worked as a writer, producing music for commercials. In 2025, he formed ホーボー (Hobo) with Yujiro Kudo and others. Kenji Okayama has been active in classicus, "豊田道倫 & His band!" and as a drum support for 銀杏BOYZ. The bassist Hiroshi Fujiwara and drummer Kenji Okayama later formed the band DOGADOGA in 2023 together with former plenty vocalist Fumiya Enuma. Kenji Okayama (percussion, tambourine, cow bell and congas in the band) left the band in June 2024. In 2008 Souhei Oyamada started the band AL together with Tomoyuki Nagasawa (Vocals, Guitar). In 2015 they welcomed original andymori members Hiroshi Fujiwara (Bass, Chorus) and Daiki Goto (Drums, Chorus) and released the two albums 心の中の色紙 (2016) and NOW PLAYING (2018).
