About Zoo Boutique

Early 1980's UK Synth Pop band from Blackpool, Lancashire, England associated with Minimal Wave genre. The band were a direct continuation of Another Dimension (post punk). The debut release by Zoo Boutique (Duncan Jowitt - vocals, David Foster - bass, Steve Grice - drums, "Sid" Hayward on synthesizers and Bill Fogel - guitar) was "Love Like A Clown" on Lightbeat compilation EP "A Drop in the Ocean" (misspelt as The Zoo Bootique) in 1982 . Became increasingly electronic when Fogel was replaced by Phil Denton on keyboards and the 1982 single “Forgive and Forget” / ”Happy Families” was released on Lightbeat on transparent vinyl. Despite UK Radio 1 prime-time airplay, the failure of the label to secure national distribution ensured that it did not reach the charts. Denton and Jowitt recorded a potential follow up single in "Psychic Spy"/"Break The Chains" which was not released and Denton left. Without him, Zoo Boutique explored increasingly industrial territory and suffered further line-up changes before in early 1985, recording another potential follow-up single "Going Down"/"Another Girl With a Broken Heart". This was not released either and Foster and Grice left soon afterwards. A 3-piece line-up featuring only Jowitt from the original band continued to play live before disbanding late in 1985. Jowitt and Foster reconvened to make a final recording of Zoo Boutique material - Two Sane Men - in 1986. Jowitt went on to form Snakeman and the Headhunters, UFX (Uncle Fester), Mockingbone, The Shining Sons, Puppetmaster and Boneyard Zombies in addition to releasing solo material under the name Lucifer / Lewis Cypher
