About Zoë Wick
Zoë Wick was probably writing songs before she was born. Although the Seattle-based singer-songwriter was raised by her non-musical mother, she gravitated towards music and began singing and writing songs soon after learning to talk. “One of my first memories is of wandering around a field singing with my best friend, picking dandelions and making up songs.” When Zoë was 6 she insisted on learning to play the violin, and spent the next 13 years performing classical music both solo and as part of orchestras. All the while, she was writing lyrics and listening to soul and R&B as well as to alternative rock bands like the Pixies and The Dandy Warhols. Finally, at 19 years old, Zoë picked up guitar so that she could share the music she truly wanted to play: her own songs. Her well-crafted lyrics point to decades of songwriting experience while retaining the honesty and vulnerability of diary entries, and her soulful voice carries listeners back to the 1920s. Now that Zoë has graduated from college she is able to focus on completing her debut EP, Lose the Moon, which was released on April 1, 2012. Songs on the EP draw from her personal experiences and relationships as well as the political and cultural topics she delved into as a sociology student. Her song "I Am The Water", was a finalist in the Songwriters in Seattle September songwriting competition, winning over judges with lyrics such as, “I am the water, you be the sand, open and warm when I reach for your hand/and when the tide pulls me don’t fight to come/just sit back and enjoy your time in the sun.” Zoë is also a sought-after collaborator and has recorded vocals for artists in genres ranging from hip-hop and electronic to folk-rock. After returning from a teaching stint in South America, she is newly energized and joyfully pursuing her creative ambitions.
