Yay Us
About Yay Us
Yay Us a DIY pop band were formed in Edinburgh, UK in 2001. Featuring Kat Sharp on drums, Joi Heald on bass, Mererid Williams on keyboards and backing vocals, Andy Hazel on guitar and vocals and Jada Brotman on synth and vocals they were unusual for being a feminist pop band in the predominantly male Scottish music scene. They have been described as low-fi and garage pop and press coverage was uniformly positive. They have also been cited as an influence on more successful bands Los Campesinos! and Gay Against You. They recorded an 8-track EP called All The Heroes Are Dead, Here We Are...Yay Us, in a day, fuelled only by Buckfast and produced by one of their few compatriots in the Scottish music scene, John Disco from Bis. Launching the CD by miming to it live at The Forest in Edinburgh (due to noise restrictions), Yay Us then disbanded. All The Heroes Are Dead, Here We Are...Yay Us is now available on Bandcamp, re-released on the Australian record label Neika Records. www.yayus.bandcamp.com www.myspace.com/neikarecords
