Yan Maresz is considered a leading light of IRCAM, the music research institute founded in the 1970s by Pierre Boulez, where he arrived aged only 27 after a decade in America – first as the only guitar student of John McLaughlin (of Mahavishnu Orchestra fame), next as the band’s principal arranger, and then for 8 years at Berklee College and the Juilliard School.
