Wet Heaven

About Wet Heaven

WET HEAVEN is one of two solo projects by Michael K. Newton, a long-standing figure in the undercurrents of Toronto’s music scene. Formerly a member of genre-spanning bands like The Diableros, The Autumn Stones, Expensive Genes, The Smear Campaign, and collaborator in experimental acts like Black Shroud, Piss Fetish, nonswimmer, and Ouija Lord, Michael has swum—and sometimes drowned—through the tides of the city's ever-shifting sonic communities. He is also a co-founder of the award-winning, volunteer-run community radio initiative TRP, a testament to his commitment to grassroots creativity and DIY infrastructure. In recent years, Michael relocated to nearby Guelph, Ontario, stepping away from the exhaustion of trying to stay afloat in a scene that too often pulls people under. While his alternate solo alias BABY GIRAFFE leans more guitar-driven and dates back to 2004, WET HEAVEN embraces a more sequenced, lo-fi electronic palette. The project’s sixth self-released work, "In Control at the A-Frame", dropped on January 1st, 2024, receiving airplay across Canadian community radio and further cementing Newton’s legacy as a quietly prolific outsider voice.
