The name is an abbreviation of “webbing off duckling,” meaning “a duck that can’t swim.” It came from looking up cool sounding English words and forcing them into a meaning that somehow worked. They played their first live show on May 13, 2010, at Kobe Mersey Beat. Over the next few years they built their reputation in the live circuit, and in 2015 they placed in RO69JACK 2015, an amateur artist contest hosted by Rockin’ On. In May 2016, they won the grand prize in the COMIN’KOBE web audition “Deren no!? Kamikobe!?” and performed on the festival’s main stage. That August, they were selected as finalists out of 3,400 applicants for “Deren no!? Summer Sonic!?” and performed on the SONIC STAGE at Summer Sonic. In September 2016, they released their first mini album, F.L.O.W.E.R.S. In September 2017, the band relocated from their hometown of Kobe to Tokyo. The following year marked a turning point. In September 2018, they made their debut with their first full album, webbing off duckling. After the departure of their previous drummer and the addition of Motoyoshi Nakajima, the lineup solidified into its current form. That April, Saito began hosting the radio program “w.o.d. Saito Takuya no ‘Pajama de Radio’” on FM NACK5. From September to December, they held the “w.o.d. presents limited show” one-man concerts under COVID-19 safety guidelines. March 2021 brought the release of their third full album, LIFE IS TOO LONG. In September, they released their fourth full album, Kanjou. The album was recorded live in a single take to analog tape at GOKSOUND Recording Studio. From October to November, they toured 13 cities nationwide with “Back To The Future IV,” including their first-ever solo performances at Zepp venues. In February 2023, they released their first live album, Live in Tokyo 2022, recorded at the final show of “Back To The Future IV” at Zepp DiverCity in Tokyo the previous November.
