About Władysław z Gielnowa
Władysław from Gielniów (also Ładysław Jan from Gielniów or Władysław (Ładysław) Gielniowczyk; born around 1440 in Gielniów near Przysucha , died on May 4 or 5 1505 in Warsaw) was a Polish medieval poet-singer. Władysław's literary legacy consists mainly of Latin and Polish religious songs. In Latin, he wrote, inter alia, the antiphon and epitaph of Szymon of Lipnica , autobiographical poem about entering the order, prayer to St. Bridget 's Church , a verse list of penitential punishments, a song to Our Lady during the plague and the poem Ad Cantica canticorum verto me based on the biblical Song of Songs . He was recognized as the greatest Polish medieval artist known by name. Research over the last few decades has also allowed to establish its authorship in relation to several Polish songs that were previously considered anonymous.
