About Veretski Pass

Veretski Pass plays Village Klezmer, traditional folk-music from Eastern-Europe. Klezmer were the Jewish musicians in Eastern-Europe before WWII. After the war the Klezmer culture mainly flourished in the USA, before becoming nearly extinct until the worldwide revival in the seventies/eighties. Cookie Segelstein and Joshua Horowitz also perform in the band "Budowitz", named after the brand of the accordion Josh plays. This is a restored antique accordion or squeeze box, dating about 1890. Josh also plays the Tsimbl. Cookie plays the violin, Stuart Brotman the bowed cello, bowed bass and poyk or bass drum with attached cymbal. Veretski Pass doesn't only play the traditional Klezmer repertoire, but also traditional folk music styles from various eastern-european countries.
