About Urban Hype

Urban Hype were known for their UK styled techno / rave featuring a pre-jungle styled beats. In the UK in the early 1990s it became popular for a short while to release dance music tracks based on children's TV programmes/educational adverts. The Prodigy released the track Charly in 1991 which was then promptly followed in 1992 by Sesame's Treet by the Smart E's and A Trip To Trumpton by Urban Hype which was based on the original Trumpton music by Freddie Phillips with heavy use of Trumpton samples such as "Time for Trumpton", "Hugh, Pugh, Barney McGrew, Cuthbert, Dibble & Grubb!". Both A Trip to Trumpton and Sesame's Treet were released at the same time which produced a very much head to head contest in the UK charts with both bands appearing on Top of the Pops during the week of the release. The duo released one album in 1992 called Conspiracy to Dance including their other 2 singles The Feeling and Living in a Fantasy.
