About Truthbrush and the Wisdom Teeth

Truthbrush and the Wisdom Teeth is a collectivist musical objective formed in Easton, CT on August 1st, 2008. Born in a haze of carnival lights, it arose in the wake of collegiate, vocational, European and ???? summers and in anticipation of wizard rock related adventures, family gatherings and Munich airline strikes. The core of the band is mostly contained within the quartet of (in alphabetical order) Ben Cannan (guitars, synths, weird sounds, bad vocals), Colin Manjoney (guitar, mandolin, ukulele, banjo, saw, bad vocals), Grace Cannan (good vocals), and Lauren Shepard (higher good vocals), although they would like to include Leah Foley (playwright, keyboards) more often. Frequent live contributors include Nick Wahl (guitar, synths, vocals) and Aimee "Boxxy" O'Seeka (tambourine). Studio contributors include Cole Tucker-Walton ("You Can Do"s) and Kacy Van Clief (Shrillness), both present on the band's firstish albumy thing whose name escapes me, and Adam Schuurmans (ukulele, vocals) and Edith Mudge (vocals, cheeriness), who are found on the band's sophomoricish effort, "Freshmen Don't Know" The band's sound is difficult to categorize. It contains elements of psych-folk in its instrumentation and choice of melodies, but that's probably because Colin makes most of the chord progressions and he likes that kind of stuff. It also includes elements of abrasive and avant-garde electronica, although lyrical content is predominantly pleasant Here's a review by Peter Asaj: Truthbrush and the Wisdom Teeth's sophomore-ish effort "Freshmen Don't Know" marks the band's first attempt at quality and first comprehensible laramie cardboard tube-sock delete key. With Adam Schurmanns and Emmy Mudge behind the wheel, They drove Their gold-plated pickup truck into the ravine of madcap experimentation, with foot-stomping tongue twisters like "Jung at Heart" and tender ballads like "Ecsedy". As usual, the musical framework was held together by Colin Manjoney, a plucking idiot and a true objectivist, while Ben Cannan sat in the corner pulling out his hairs one by one. Grace Cannan put forth her best effort to date, hitting the highest note ever produced by a mollusk. Lauren Shepard played her electric volkswagon so well, she ended up in Danbury, never to be heard from again except through the luminiferous aether. If current trends continue, Truthbrush and the Wisdom Teeth will be surrounded by social climbers in about three years. Until then, I remain handcuffed to the my typewriter in morbid anticipation. 1.
