About Toylets

Toylets were a gothic-influenced post-punk band based in the town of Joure, The Netherlands. Fronted by Schoonebeek-born singer, guitarist and songwriter, Paul Dokter (1961-2020), the band was founded in 1980 as The Toilets, or Toilets (both versions of the name would appear on a single sleeve). They released two singles for the Top Hole record label under that name, then decided to change the name of the band. Having very briefly performed as Subsequent Pleasure, they settled for Toylets and released their only LP, It's like a daydream, exploding again (1982), only to split up not long after the release. Personnel: Paul Dokter (guitar, vocals), Gerard Terwisscha van Scheltinga (bass), Peter Waterlander (drums). Dokter later started The Serenes (in 1988, to be precise) with fellow singer, guitarist and songwriter, Theo de Jong, who had briefly played keyboards in the Toylets' final live set-up. Paul Dokter unexpectedly died of cardiac arrest in August 2020, aged 59.
