About Tony Woollard

Tony Woollard is a independent British artist who has recently recorded a ground breaking album of new works for solo cello by British composers. He studied in London and Switzerland with Robert Cohen and David Smith. His debut album is called Cello Journey. Please buy it and help support independent artists. "The talented cellist's intense lyricism and ability to project and communicate the music's narrative qualities ensures that there are enough distinctive musical signposts along the way to engage the listener.” Gramophone Magazine, July 2010 "Almost all the items in this recital of works for solo cello are recorded for the first time. Walton's stately Theme for a Prince was written for Prince Charles in 1970.. Robert Saxton's Sonata utilises the theme in its finale. I enjoyed Yvonne Parsons's Dove l'anima riposa, six cunningly contrasted epigrammatic movements. Jonathan Rathbone's When All is Said and Done covers similar ground but less pithily. Tony Woollard, whose clever idea this disc was, performs all the works superbly." **** Michael Kennedy, Sunday Telegraph. June 2010
