About Tommy Hale
With 10 tracks and a front cover that's proudly headed 'STEREO', Tommy Hale's second album gives off a pleasingly old-school aroma. Don't be fooled by the earnest-sounding title. Stolen Conversations, Three Chords And The Truth might conjure po-faced intent, but Hale's music is fashioned from two base elements: rock and roll though the recipe is refreshingly broad. With its brooding yet untamed opening cut, plus a horn-driven take on The Cure's Just Like Heaven, a mid-'70s Stonesy ballad (complete with falsetto vocal), a life-affirming, organ-shaded gospel closer, and plenty of driving rock 'n' roll in between, Stolen Conversations finds Hale at his vowel-chewing best, straddling the line between commercial singer-songwriter and cult bar-room punk. In the circumstances, his invitation to 'let me be your libertine' is hard to resist. Darren Stockford --She Didn't Like Rock n' Roll Magazine
