About 東方沙羅

東方沙羅 (Toho Sara) is a band from Japan, formed by Asahito Nanjo (High Rise) and Makoto Kawabata (Acid Mothers Temple). They play an avant-garde mix of psychedelia and shamanic music. Asahito Nanjo and Makoto Kawabata have been playing together since the early 1990s when they created the underground group Johari, playing experimental ethnic fusion. The group continued until 1992 and in 1994 it evolved in Toho Sara. Their debut self-titled album was released in 1995, featuring Hisashi Yasuda. In an interview, Kawabata Makoto described Toho Sara's music as "A new vibration of chaos. To exclude all impressionistic melodies, and concentrate solely on acoustic phenomena".
