About Toño Fernandez
Toño Fernández (Miguel Hernadez Antonio Vasquez, Fernández Calle de Mira Flores, Colombia, September 24, 1912 - December 2, 1988) As a child he fell in love with the sweet sounds of the bagpipes, the bullerengue, an instrument he learned to play from his cousin Ramon Barreto. He was the director of the best pipers, the brothers Juan and Jose Lara, Mañe Mendoza, Mañe Cerpa, Tono Rodriguez, Gregory Julio et al. He toured and released Colombian folklore to countries like France, Spain, Germany, Russia, China, Japan, New York, among others, and was joined by brothers Zapata Olivella, Pedro Nolasco Mejia and Catalino Parra. When he died in his native country , he left more than 40 works, including “La Mica Prieta”, “Maria de los Reyes,” “Three Strikes”, “The Broom”, “Let her cry” “The Marucha”.
