About Tic Tac Toe

Tic Tac Toe were a German girl group formed in 1995 that performed pop-rap music. The group consisted of Liane Wiegelmann (Lee), Ricarda Wältken (Ricky), and Marlene Tackenberg (Jazzy). They achieved commercial success with their first two albums, "Tic Tac Toe" and "Klappe die 2te", both of which sold over one million copies and produced hit singles including "Ich find' dich scheiße", "Verpiss' dich", and "Warum?". Their popularity was greatest in German-speaking countries, as well as in the Netherlands and parts of Eastern Europe. The group initially disbanded in 2001 following internal conflicts and public controversies, later briefly reuniting before permanently disbanding in 2007. The group was formed in the Ruhr area and managed by Claudia Wohlfromm, who co-wrote their material with Torsten Börger. Their debut single, "Ich find' dich scheiße" (1995), attracted attention due to its provocative title and became a commercial success in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. It was followed by the album "Tic Tac Toe" in 1996, which reached the top five of the charts and achieved multi-platinum status. Additional singles from the album included "Funky", "Leck mich am A, B, Zeh", and the number one hit "Verpiss' dich". During this period, the group was also involved in a widely reported public dispute with rapper Sabrina Setlur. In 1997, the group released their second album, "Klappe die 2te", which reached number one in Germany and Switzerland and sold over one million copies in Germany. The lead single, "Warum?", became their most successful song, topping the charts in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. Further singles included "Mr. Wichtig" and "Bitte küss' mich nicht". During this period, the group faced extensive media scrutiny concerning discrepancies in their public image and personal backgrounds, as well as internal tensions. A press conference in Munich in 1997 intended to address these issues instead revealed conflicts between the members, leading to a decline in popularity. Shortly afterward, Ricky left the group to pursue a solo career. Following Wältken’s departure, Wiegelmann and Tackenberg briefly continued as a duo before Sara Brahms joined the group. Under the name Sara @ Tic Tac Two, they released the single "Nie wieder" in 1999, which achieved chart success. In 2000, the group released their third studio album, "Ist der Ruf erst ruiniert...", under the original name Tic Tac Toe. The album produced several singles, including "Isch liebe disch", but was less commercially successful than their previous releases. The group disbanded later that year. In 2005, the original line-up reunited and released the single "Spiegel", which reached the top ten and renewed public interest in the group. A compilation album followed in 2006, along with the studio album "Comeback", which achieved moderate chart success. The subsequent single "Keine Ahnung" did not chart, and a planned concert tour was shortened due to limited demand. The group officially disbanded again in 2007. Reports of a further reunion in 2009 did not materialize. Following the group’s final dissolution, the members pursued individual activities, with Tackenberg continuing to release music and appear in stage and television productions, while Wiegelmann withdrew from the music industry.
