About This Is Radio Silence
This Is Radio Silence first appeared in 2006 as the solo project of SonVer guitarist and former Earth Loop Recall frontman Ben McLees. A 6-track, eponymous EP was self-released in the June of that year, available purely as a 'send me an email if you'd like a copy' CD. (It is now available again as a download from the TIRS Bandcamp page). TIRS did not reappear again until August 2008 when the double A-side single 'The Heart Grows Fonder'/'T.M.N.T.Y.' was released as a free download via the Line Out Records website. Ben spent the next 12 months working on debut album 'Now There's Nothing', which was released initially as an 8-track download-only in January 2010, then again as an extended version CD 12 months later. Described by Line Out Records as "deep, dark and heartwrenchingly honest", the album featured a collaboration with Scott Lamb (aka DeathBoy) on 'The Truth Is In Your Trigger Finger' and contributions from I Am Immune/Bleak/Earth Loop Recall guitarist Tim Clark. Following the acrimonious split of SonVer in 2009, Ben set about expanding TIRS from solo project to a full band - the core trio line-up subsequently formed with the full-time additions of guitarist Sam Astley (Nemhain/EWSS/Murder Mile Three/Copperhead Lucy) and bassist Geoff Courts (Djevara/Susan Acid/Sour Grape Project). The 3-piece played a sprinkling of live shows during 2010 and were joined by former Earth Loop Recall drummer Dan Vickers for a memorable show supporting The Chameleons at the O2 Islington Academy in February 2011. Throughout 2011 and the first half of this 2012, TIRS have been working on second album 'Soon, Much Of This Will Have Been Destroyed', due for release in late summer 2012. There are plans for extensive live shows to coincide with and follow the album's release, which will debut the new (and yet-to-be revealed) 5-piece line-up of the band.
