About The Somethings
The Somethings are an alternative/indie rock band from Belgrade, Serbia, formed in October 2011. Initially focusing on covering indie rock, punk rock, and alternative rock songs, the first two years of their existence were marked by the idea that the youth rock'n'roll scene in their hometown was in dire need of a band that would work towards the popularisation of a more alternative and sophisticated sound. In May 2013, The Somethings entered a process of transformation - while the core of the band, consisting of Nikola Kostić (drums), Pavle Pavičić (bass guitar, backing vocals), and Nenad Gavrilović (lead guitar), remained constant, a change at the position of the lead vocalist introduced Pavle Ilić to the band. Ljubomir Brščić would soon take up the position of the rhythm guitarist, and the band would get its current line-up after Nemanja Lučić (keyboards) joined, starting his performing career with The Somethings at the "Volim Rock" festival in Vinča, at which they would play alongside Električni orgazam - a cult Yugoslav rock group. This transformation would mark a break with The Somethings' identity as a strictly cover band. While they are still searching for a sound that could be labelled as "theirs", The Somethings are no strangers to inter-genre experimentation ranging from the energetic, raw and harsh riffs of "Silazi" (lit. Get Down), over toying with jazz and ska standards, through the progressive structure of "Monoton" (Monotone). Having become recognised among the urban youth of Belgrade as a diverse and energetic band, The Somethings are currently regular performers in many clubs and small range festivals in the city (the aforementioned "Volim Rock" festival and the "Silence Fest vol. 2" in 2014; SBUF in 2013). Staunch believers in the social role of their art, The Somethings often performed at humanitarian music events – most prominently during the severe flooding that hit large areas of the Balkans in the spring of 2014. The Somethings often pay tribute to their musical influences by playing band-exclusive cover concerts. So far they did Arctic Monkeys, The Clash and Muse concerts, gaining positive feedback from the audiences as well as fellow musicians. The band's future plans include exposing themselves to audiences outside Belgrade, as well as searching for publishing opportunities. Members of The Somethings consider (alternative) art to be a point of convergence of different forms and content, and they believe that, should their efforts succeed, they will in time overgrow the label of a band and become a true artistic collective by enabling a large number of creative people to express themselves within or alongside The Somethings, while not being limited to any one artistic form.
