About The Semester
The Semester was an alternative rock band with pop-punk influences from Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States. In a stampede of pop band histeria that has taken over the music world, many bands have given into different trends, trying to sound like the presently big thing, further diluting the genre that they are apart of. But The Semester has not. Still writing catchy music, The Semester has maintained a distinct and unique sound that is closely related, but not the same as other bands in their scene. Since the summer of 2005, The Semester has been touring relentlessly, only breaking to record their debut full length release New Beginnings & Happy Endings. Since released on June 30th, 2006, the record has sold upwards of 1,000 copies and has sat consistently in SmartPunk's top 100 list in sales since July 2006. With their explosive and high audience participation live performances, it has been no trouble for The Semester to build a sizely and devoted fan base. From drawing 800 kids in Minneapolis, to playing sold out shows on the east coast, the hometown and nation wide audience continues to broaden with every tour and every new release. The biggest challenge for the boys, has been doing all of this on their own. The band has been going about their affairs completely independently, not yet signing to any record deal that has been offered. "Dont get me wrong, we would love to sign to a label, lead singer & guitar player Pat Brown notes, We are just waiting for the right offer to come along before we jump at anything." Future plans for the band include touring and shopping the new record. They plan on hitting the road again in the middle of November, for a one month east coast tour. Even though it is easy to feel lost in the cludder of an immense and growing music scene, The Semester keeps a positive and determined mind set. "We want to be the best band youve ever seen or heard," Brown states confidently, "and we will go to the ends of the world to accomplish that." They create some of the best sing-along, dance-along music in the Midwest. Sadly though, to the dismay of many fans, The Semester decided that they are going to disband, and their last show will be March 30th.
