About The Sea Monks
The Sea Monks is one of 12 aliases that Abunai! used on their 2nd album, 1999's The Mystic River Sound. On the album, an imaginary alternate-dimension north-of-Boston scene is imagined and fleshed out, with Abunai! playing the part of each of the various bands. The scene is laid out in painstaking (and slyly humorous) detail in the album's liner notes by a pseudonymous scribe, reported to be the father of Abunai! bassist Dan Parmenter. The band names used on the album are: The Sea Monks, The Earth-2 Abunai!, The Red Baise, The Seven Seals, space echo, The Tea Tokens, The Merrie Shyrwode Rangers, The Scollay Squares, Spectrowax, North End Molasses Disaster, Abunai! (for the track "Toast"), Everyone Else (nonexistent track), and Magick Stars (hidden MP3 track). With all of the above said, however, the tracks on The Mystic River Sound are usually just credited to "Abunai!" whenever they're played or mentioned.
