About The New Heaven and the New Earth
The New Heaven and The New Earth started with Roger Alejandro Martinez's desire to form a project that filtered classical and baroque music through a surrealistic pop lens. To realize this vision, Martinez, along with cellist Jeffrey Russ, holed themselves up in various Philadelphia warehouses, basements and bedrooms for several months, gathering together whatever musicians they felt their recording called for. "All Saints' Day" is the result of these sessions, an EP that sets symbolic, mythological and autobiographical subject matter to psychedelic tinged chamber music. Shortly after the recording, Martinez and Russ enlisted Darian Scatton to round out the performing lineup. The trio makes the most of its truncated size; each member plays multiple instruments and handles vocal harmonies. The New Heaven and The New Earth is a part of the Edible Onion collective, which also includes such artists as Br'er, Eskimeaux and Power Animal.
