The Kerrys

About The Kerrys

Picture it 1996-97 in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, England. Four lads, one band, lots of alcohol. Britpop in Mad-field at its peak. The Woodpecker, The Masons Arms, The Bowl in Hand, Brunells, and the infamous Harveys nightclub, all locations for band members - Chris Whild - Vocals, Mike Hayes - Guitar God, James Pattison - bass, and Steve Young on drums to strut their stuff and act like Rockstars. Nobody will ever forget the bank holiday all day music festival at The Woodpecker, when Mike, having been drinking all day, with me, forgot how to tune his guitar and stumbled off stage mid-gig, paraletic, followed by an irate Steve and a concerned bunch of groupies! Oh, those where the days! The Kerrys had reasonable success in the local area, and even travelled to Nottingham and London to play gigs. They could probably claim to be the biggest band on the indie circuit in Mansfield during the mid 90`s along with National Embarrassment (boo!). Sadly it wasn`t long after the bank holiday incident that The Kerrys expired. Mike tried to form a new band called "Citrus" which I actually auditioned to be lead vocalist of, enough said. That never happened, but Mike went on to enjoy brief success on the London shoegazing scene with his band Sleepless UK. In December 2007, ten years after the split, The Kerrys got together for a re-union practice session in their hometomwn, and thanks to the success of this, are even planning more of these. If things continue to go well, this will hopefully lead to a one-off comeback gig in the summer of 2008.
