"the perfect riposte for anyone who says that the british guitar band is dead, the incredible flight of birdman's debut single saunters on to the scene to remind people that erudition and passion can still be mixed together with unique results from a traditional four-piece line-up. seemingly a tale of obsessional love tipping over into outright paranoia, 'where i can't see you' is both a sinister entry to tifob's domain, yet infectious enough to sneak onto the radio too. meanwhile, proving that the days of the classic b-side 'needn't be obsolete' in the download age, we are made is the unapologetically lighter flipside, a song to kick your heart in. formed after singer nick osbourne met guitarist rich yates at warwick university where they bonded over david bowie's film labyrinth, the band (now based in cambridge and colchester) were found after sending a demo to planet sound, the music pages of teletext. the likes of editors, maximo park, calvin harris, hope of the states and the twilight sad had previously received rave demo reviews there. planet sound editor john earls has set up wet records with friends gareth williams and simon taylor, with tifob (as they will surely be popularly shortened soon) becoming the first single to be released on the label.2 Rough Trade
