About The Hope and the Failure
The Hope and the Failure were already very much a movement before Lars Garvey Laing-Peterson was ushered into their company by close friend, business partner, and fellow music enthusiast Daniel Grönblad of Devotion to Trust, who had been filling in on second guitars for a while before Devotion started to record what would be their debut EP, "Everyone Is Sick Or Dying". After Lars was added, and realizing that he had found what he had been looking to do musically with Ina, Kristoffer, Magnus, and Jon, the band was named (by Magnus) and recording began on what is to date their only release - "The Lights Are On But This Dance Never Ends". While their shows were few and far between, they drew many of the Stockholm youth who had been looking for a local band in the vein of City of Caterpillar, Botch, Neurosis, Fear Before the March of Flames, and Envy, as well as attracting a small, but loyal listening fanbase in Europe, Japan, Canada, and the United States. The story has slowed after Lars' departure from Sweden after Migrationsverket (Sweden's Migration Board) refused to let him stay in the country despite having learned Swedish and lived in Stockholm for over three years, but the band is far from dead. Future recordings are being planned, with the Atlantic Ocean seen as merely an obstacle and not a barrier in the future of the band. Their 'last show' was played with longtime friends Devotion to Trust, Iisole, and When We Fall, three of the Swedish bands the group respected most, before Lars' departure from Sweden in Summer 2005. The Hope and the Failure have plans to record and release a follow up to "The Lights Are On...", which will not be derailed by transatlantic distances. Kristoffer, Jon, and Lars also played with Swedish-Finnish singer-songwriter Pekka Pörtfors in What Happens in Vegas Stays in Vegas.
