About The Grand Gestures

The Grand Gestures is a collaborative project led by Jan Burnett of Spare Snare. Their first album, released in May 2012, features contributions from Celie Byrne, Calamateur, Calamity Horse, Sanjeev Kohli, Jill O’Sullivan and Emma Pollock. The music was written by Burnett, and is influenced by his love of dusty 12″ vinyl, synth duos and electronica. Vocal tracks were then created by the different collaborators. These were recorded without computers on a stand-alone 16-track recorder in Burnett’s bathroom, with reverb of the tiles adding to the overall sound, and at the same time giving a nod to Joe Meek.
