About The Goodbye Plot

The Goodbye Plot was a British band from Manchester formed in 2006. Consisting of Jon Muraca, Brynn Chappell, Gareth Price & Mark Warburton, the band recorded two EPs: “A Night’s Darkness & A Day’s Drive” and "The Silent Fanfare". Three of the band (Jon, Brynn & Gareth) met in 2000. Jon arrived in Manchester in a piano box, with a voice & guitar in tow to make a place for himself as a songwriter. Brynn carried a typewriter under his guitar arm & they wrote songs & wrote more songs. Brynn took a trip to America, returned, & the duo got serious about things. Which is when they moved into a house, with a fellow called Gareth, (remember him), where instruments outnumbered people ten to one & they could begin recording. Gareth’s father was the music teacher in his local elementary school, which allowed him to sneak back into the rooms after hours to play the instruments that now occupied the house. Finishing their first record “A Night’s Darkness and a Day’s Drive” in early 2005 they produced a small run, took a deep breath & released it into the world. It found itself as record of the week at Piccadilly Records, which led to a string of shows & the search for a drummer. During this time Mark had been out on a tour of duty playing drums as a member of the travelling circus. After three years playing under the big top he ran away to Manchester and was strong-armed into joining the band. Handshakes now over, the band, fully formed retired once again to their house to work on what became “The Silent Fanfare”. Gathering around their upright piano to refine their style & ability produced a sound somewhere between the uplifting guitar driven indie rock of Doves & Arcade Fire with the imaginative pop of Badly Drawn Boy & Elliott Smith.
