About The Fluf
The Fluf. Kinda hard to describe really. The ever changing line up has seen a number of different formations and sounds. Back in 1997 guitarist Andy Screen started writing along with Jim Bardgett as a bit of fun. After a while Jim took up his role on the bass and after a number of drummers (Hannah, Will, Olli, Lee & Kevin & Jake on bass for a bit before Jim took over) and a few sketchy art college gigs, Sketch Parker was found. After some practice it was time to hit the pubs n clubs in the local area playing plenty of d.i.y gigs with hardcore punk band Violent Basket. To liven the whole thing up vocalist K-Ball and key player Pete joined the ranks creating a skacore Fluf with influences from Rancid to Red Hot Chilli Peppers. The power of a 3 pc horn section was added with Ash D on trumpet, Jason D on alto sax and Jack on tenor sax to bring out the ska feel and funk it all up some what in summer 03. The FluF took part in a covers competition @ Flicks night club, playing as the Specials where they finished joint 2nd out of 8 bands and then came 3rd as Green Day in a follow up comp. They recorded and co produced, along side s24, their own demo, ‘The crafty squirrel EP’ on a mini disk 4-track recorder supplied by New Deal for Musicians, which has had 2 tracks taken from it on the Anarchy Records compilation. Their first studio EP, recorded @ Frequency Studio’s in Somerton, Somerset with old friend Ben Axford was paid for with money earn from gigging. They also released a single with live recordings of ‘Dark Ska song’ and ‘I want B.S.E’ as well as ‘Given up’, a solo song by Andy. They also make a fan-zine about the band, ‘The fluffy news’ that we review demo’s and records, zine’s and gigs as well as interview people who supported/ worked with them. With a powerful and energetic stage presence the live shows always went down down well, at big gigs to parties and with a range of influences from punk and ska bands such as Sublime, Rancid and the Specials, to Charlie Mingus’s jazz and even prog rock bands such as Gong and Zappa, anything is possible and their sound has a little something for everyone. http://thefluf.co.uk/
