About The Blue Pearls

The Blue Pearls are a band from Sweden playing the music they love. They communicate their own blues and rock feeling, which is improvisational innovative music - rooted in blues. You can find bands who imitate blues music because they think it's "hip". More rarely you will find groups like The Blue Pearls who actually can play the blues and stick loyal to it's simplicity and musical magic. Without B.B. King and Elmore James there would not have been a Fleetwood Mac. Consequently you can say that The Blue Pearls are a result of their inspiries Fleetwood Mac. The Blue Pearls mainly plays compositions written by bandleader/ guitarist Bela Stephens altered with Fleetwood Mac classics. This mix of originals and Fleetwood Mac songs appeals to peoples musical nerve. The Blue Pearls play as much to amuse themselves, as to please an audience and that has given the band an air of freeedom which people find highly attractive. Nobody, young or old, can remain indifferent to the band's touching qualities. The Blue Pearls wants to take their music into the new Millenium with intuition and integrity. Many people regret that they did not take the chance or did not have the opportunity to see "so-and-so" live. Don't make the same mistake again. The Blue Pearls will be one of those legendary acts, that you will regret not seeing live. The Blue Pearls is a versatile and exciting group carrying on the legacy of heartfelt music. We write and perform our music for people with open minds. There is a lot of purists who have foolishly set boundaries of what they are willing to accept as blues, jazz, classical, etc etc. We can not and should not be restricted by these emotionally immature people. The Blue Pearls are runaways from the "12-bar-prison". It is obvious on songs like "It's All In Your Head" and "Charmed Of The Moonlight" which are performed brave and uncompromised. We hope to open many ears amongst the new generation also for our kind of music. A lot of those who today praise Peter Green as the greatest white bluesman, rejected songs like "Rattlesnake Shake" and "The Green Manalishi" in the 60's and 70's when Peter introduced them. Peter Green told me in person that this saddened him and caused him a lot of frustration. Peter left Fleetwood Mac partly because he found it hard to convince - the other members of the band - as well as the audience that he needed to break out from the "12-bar-strait-jacket". The Blue Pearls plays the blues numbers true and honest, which is no contradiction to playing new kinds of music as well. Our music and lyrics describe our lives and the things that are important to us: relations and our existence in it's whole. When push comes to shove you can only be true to yourself. You can choose to make honest songs and thereby reveal your inner mind, or to play it safe and do "Mickey Mouse versions" of the blues. Playing in a group is very much like a close marriage. You have to be there for each other and not just act like a grown-up but also being one. The chemistry between us causes the excitement in the music that we perform. You can feel that we like - and rely on - each other. We get a kick out of playing together, be it in the rehearsing-studio or in front of an audience. Hope to see you at our next concert. Kindly Bela Stephens The Band Bela Stephens is the powerhouse of The Blue Pearls being guitarist, composer & bandleader. He can take you to guitar heaven with a superb lyrical solo on his vintage Les Paul or an adrenalin charged high-octane wild wah-wah solo. Bela's songs with sincere lyrics reveals his "you-can't-live-with- them-you-can't-live-without-them"-experiences with women. His visionary songs written from instinct and insight makes you fall in love with life again. Bela likes to give the other group members an opportunity to shine. "No matter who's stunning the audience it's still The Blue Pearls". Perry Marshall sings heartfelt with a coloured tone. He can also deliver a red hot solo on the harmonica and lay down an inspired rhythm on his white Strat. Perry has paid his dues, that is why he can sing and play with great passion and the next minute with bare raw emotion. Whether it's an original Blue Pearls composition or a blues classic, Perry sings with a confidence like he owns them. His sandpapery vocals heavily influenced by mentor Ray Charles makes him a highly appreciated blues singer. In his finest moments Perry performs delicate vocals with an almost unbelievable expression. Madman plays solid pulsating bass runs. He has a natural gift for playing the blues, his fretwork is consequently very authentic. Madman is a real showman, he can always establish a pleasant atmosphere and a dialogue with the audience. He is also very much responsible for the humorous side of The Blue Pearls, and helps the other members not take themselves too seriously. Madman spend his sparetime birdwatching... Jay Rhodes is the group's quiet guy. He has a feel for economy in his playing. Jay can play the piano beautifully controlled as well as creating the vintage blues sound. He is someone to lean on when it gets drafty. Jay has a sence of responsibility and is engaged in animal rights. Per Lindberg is a versatile drummer and masters many kinds of expressions on his tight kit. Influences comes from both jazz & blues and he is continuously developing his style. Per plays tasty with a laid-back flavour as well as with urgency and drive. His shuffle swing in sync with the bass causes the whole band to cook.
