About The Tommy Shreve Band
About Tommy Tommy was born in Lake Charles, LA in 1950 into a family that loved music. Mable & Junior's small but potent record collection included Bob Wills, Elvis, Louis Prima, Buck Owens, and even Herb Alpert. Tommy caught the bug early and never recovered. He joined his first group in '64 as a high school freshman singing with classmates in a folk quartet. He soon learned to play guitar and talked Mable and Junior into buying his first guitar in 1966. By a quirk of fate (and maybe some Johnny Walker Red) they bought a fine, slightly used Gibson J45. “I still play that guitar 46 years later and consider it my most valued possession”. Tommy played in several cover bands '67 to '70. What should have been college years (Mable and Junior soon came to regret the guitar purchase) became an ever-increasing interest in songwriting, guitar playing, and more serious musical involvement. While playing in the group Big Cheyenne, Tommy (along with Danny Kimball, Mike Hicks, and Joe David…all from Lake Charles) helped kick off the Jay's Lounge era: a funky roadhouse mix of hippies, cowboys, and bewildered Cajun locals in Cankton, LA. In the late 70's Tommy joined the Red Beans & Rice Revue and became part of popular Lafayette and gulfcoast tradition for many years. In the mid 80's to early 90's Tommy furnished the guitar power for Wayne Toups, Zachary Richard, T.K. Hulin, G.G. Shinn and toured with a musical theater troupe in Japan, the US, and in Barcelona, Spain for the '92 Olympics. '93 brought a relocation to the Colorado mountain ski resort areas. Here Tommy performed (and still performs) with his own band and with other entertainers in a wide variety of musical settings. In 2011 he and his wife Elisabeth bought a house in Lafayette and plan to spend winters there and at least part of their summers back in Colorado. Official Website: Tommy Shreve
