About The Sick Lipstick

Shortly after the demise of their former band Black Cat #13 in 2001, Lindsey Gillard and Mark McLean joined forces with Allan Graham to form the quirky punk rock group The Sick Lipstick. During the two-year period in which Black Cat #13 was together, they managed to garner a large, devout following, even though they only put out a handfull of vinyl-only releases, including a 7" on the influencial Three.One.G label. In the summer of 2001, The Sick Lipstick embarked on their first tour, which included a number of dates playing alongside XBXRX. During that time a kinship arose between the two bands and the outcome was a split 7", which later came out on Deleted Art from Sweden. The Sick Lipstick track from the split 7" "Teenage Robot," was also included on the 5rc compilation, "If The Twenty-First Century Didn't Exist, It Would Be Necessary To Invent It." The band's debut EP was released by Sound Virus, an up and coming California label that has put out records by great and cutting edge bands such as The Blood Brothers, Liars and Pretty Girls Make Graves. Since it's release in September of 2002, the EP has sold strongly with little promotion, due to the large following of Black Cat #13. Dennis Amos joined up with the group on drums in July of 2002, allowing Mark to take over the keyboard and Lindsey to concentrate soley on vocals. With the new line-up, the band practiced constantly and played out regularly while working on what would become their debut album, Sting Sting Sting. Sting Sting Sting is a manic combination of dance-y drumming, quirky keyboard lines, stabs of atonal guitar and crushing vocals from the likes of an embittered naughty catholic school girl. The sound of the album has been compared to the likes of The Contortions, Screamers, Huggy Bear and early B-52's, however it is quite evident that The Sick Lipstick has a sound all it's own. The Sick lipstick broke up in Feb. 2004 citing an over indulgence in zombie cookies as the reason for the break. new bands featuring tsl members: Fox the Boombox (lindsey) Marlax (mark) The Creeping Nobodys (dennis)
