About The Love In
Born from the remnants of Los Angeles' punk, mod and Paisley Underground of the late 1980s, the members of The Love In were still in their teens and early twenties when they burst onto the scene with their self-produced EP, which Randy Lewis of the L.A. Times proclaimed "A rarity in rock," while raving about the band and likening them to a cross between R.E.M. and Crowded House, with touches of The Style Council. Drummer Scott Kellems had been in punk legends Shattered Faith and Dischords, and bassist/vocalist Kurt Stake had played with mod outfit The Jetz, when they joined with teen guitarist/vocalist Tom Sheppard. The band powered through the sluggish and disjointed L.A. scene into the early 90s, playing gigs with everyone from L7 to No Doubt, before disbanding.
