About The Dead Girls
The Dead Girls (formerly Dead Girls Ruin Everything) is the white-hot super group formed from the molten ashes of Ultimate Fakebook and Podstar, two recently defunct bands that were staples of the Lawrence and Kansas City power-pop sound. Guitarists/singers JoJo Longbottom and Cameron Hawk, of Podstar, combine their dual-guitar driven attack and blissful vocal harmonies with the precise rhythmic assault of drummer Eric Melin and bassist Nick Colby, of Ultimate Fakebook, creating a raw and infectious rock sound with as much of an emphasis on melody as there is on rip-roaring guitar licks. It all started almost a decade ago, when Podstar, then a high-school band, was rocking the scene in Manhattan, Kan. around the same time that a new incarnation of Ultimate Fakebook was just getting ready to take off. Both bands had similar musical styles and played together often, which resulted in some (at first) not-so-friendly competition between them. There are still several stories going around of after-hour shenanigans leading to fistfights, broken coffee tables, thrashed porches and "log jamming". But regardless, or perhaps because of all this, there emerged a camaraderie and musical chemistry that was apparent from the start of the first Dead Girls show.
