The Compression are from Wakefield, originally forming as school chums with this eventual low rent release on the ever fabulous Philophobia record label. The best thing about “Au Naturel” is that it sounds like this is a real garage band. They combine the effective machinery of grunge with a poppy, American feel (think Weezer on a tight budget). There’s definitely a purity to this trio’s sound which is equally borne out on their rusty, rattling sub-pop meander “Weasel”, containing within, a wonderfully frank and truly impressive guitar break.
