About Joe and the Chicken Heads

Joe and the Chicken Heads was the original name of the band now known The Radioactive Chicken Heads. The band first formed in 1993, influenced by the theatrical bands Green Jelly and GWAR as well as the children's songs of Barry Louis Polisar and rock parodies of "Weird Al" Yankovic. Their first public performance was at their junior high school talent show. After producing a few homemade cassettes in the 90s, they appeared on a number of compilation CDs, including "Hey Brother 2", "Hey Brother 4", "Til Someone Loses An Eye" and "Flogging a Dead Cow: A Tribute to the Dead Milkmen" The Chicken Heads made their television debut on the Halloween 1998 episode of the Extreme Gong show, performing their song "Pest Control" . Although they were "gonged" in mid-performance, they finished the song anyway, claiming that they were playing so loud that they couldn't hear the gong. They released a a full length album Keep On Cluckin in 2000 and a 3" cd ep in 2002. The band changed their name toThe Radioactive Chicken Heads in 2004.
