About The Bluezone
Bluezone (NSW) Every now and then an exception to the rule is exposed. In this case it comes in the form of a group of young bluesmen that despite their youth, exhibit all the traits of the most time-honoured blues players to grace this celebrated genre. The enigmatic style of Hendrix; the heart and soul of BB King; the silky sleekness of Clapton; the rock solid sound of Stevie Ray and much more are all handled with respect and excellence by these young men. The Bluezone morph with the tunes they cover to create a synergy of new and old that has audiences of all types mutually agreeing that musical quality and subtle self-stylised interpretation is what they desire above exacting reproductions. The real quality of The Bluezone, although easily recognised in their exhilarating renditions of the blues greats, is most evident when they launch headlong into one of their own tunes, or riffs as they like to phrase it. Adam (guitar, vocals), Mik (drums, vocals), Joel (bass, vocals) and formerly, Parris (keyboard) are all exceptional artists in their own right, but together they combine raw talent with an intrinsic feel for what they are doing, to provide an experience that demands revisiting. Bluezone scooped the 2007 Australian Blues Music 'Chain' Awards as finalists in every category (excluding Female Vocalist) coming away with: Song of the Year, Male Vocalist and Producer of the Year. Adam Eckersley Adam is the youngest member of Bluezone. You often see impressive guitarists or great singers or fantastic harp players, but Adam is all three. Always performing with soul and conviction and youthful exuberance you truly have to see to believe. Adam started playing guitar at age 14 and instantly fell in love with the blues, being influenced by Stevie Ray and Eric Clapton and a million other greats. He began playing professionally at 17 in bands in and around Grafton before moving to Tamworth in 2003 where he met Joel Oakhill and formed what would become Bluezone. Winner of the Bluestar Peoples' Choice Award 2007 for Best Australasian Vocal - Male. ** Adam was the Festival's official Ambassador for 2008! Joel Oakhill Joel has been playing bass since he was 14. Born into a musical family in Brisbane QLD he started playing professionally just 6 months after he picked up the bass. Gigging in and around Brisbane till he was 19, he was invited to play with Lyn Bowtell (now of country super group Bella) a gig, which lasted 4 years. After which time he pursued a freelance career and was able to play with such artists as Tania Kernaghan, Adam Harvey, Darren Coggan, Bill Chambers, Beccy Cole and the list continues. Always with a love of the blues and funk, he was lucky enough to meet Adam Eckersley in 2003 and formed The Bluezone. Mik McCartin Since becoming a full time musician in 1995, Mik has accomplished a lot of goals in a short time, both nationally and internationally. Starting his first band with Golden Guitar Winner Lyn Bowtell, from Country Group 'Bella'. Mik also has played with Award Winning Group The Wild Turkey Band. While playing with the Wild Turkey Band, Mik played with some of Australia's prominent artists like Beccy Cole, Rick Price, Lee Kernighan, Marie Wilson, and Adam Harvey, to name a few. When long time friend Jedd Hughes asked Mik to play for him in the USA, Mik jumped at the opportunity. Jedd toured the US constantly, it was a dream come true Mik says, we opened for high profile artists such as, Brad Paisley, Sara Evans, Vince Gill, Lee Ann Womack, and Hank Williams Jr. Winner of the Bluestar Peoples' Choice Award 2007 for Best Australasian Instrumentalist - Drums. CDs include: The Sweetest Most Perfect Thing (2006)
