About Tekla Bądarzewska-Baranowska
Tekla Bądarzewska-Baranowska (1834–1861) was a Polish composer. Her birth date is unclear; there are also references to her being born in 1838. Born in Mlawa, and dying very young in her late 20s in Warsaw, by far her most famous composition is the piece "Modlitwa dziewicy", op. 4 (A Maiden's Prayer), which was published in 1856 in Warsaw, and then as a supplement to the Paris Revue et Gazette Musicale in 1858. It is a sentimental piano piece which gained huge popularity (and attracted great opprobrium from music lovers and critics). She also wrote over forty other works for piano, including "Douce Reverie", "Echos du Bois" and "The Nightingale's Song", the latter having an inscription from Lord Byron in its initial publication.
