The autumn season begins in September. Okko Kamu conducts the Tampere Philharmonic The coming season invites maestro Okko Kamu to conduct two concerts. Among other guest stars you'll meet violinists Christian Tetzlaff, Benjamin Schmid and the young pianist Boris Giltburg. The Tampere Philharmonic also celebrates the 100th Anniversary of Olivier Messiaen with his piano concerto 'Oiseaux exotiques' & Jean-Philippe Collard and the wonderful oeuvre 'Des canyons aux étoiles' conducted by Marc Soustrot with Roger Muraro as the piano soloist. Premieres by Jouni Kaipainen and Raoul Björkenheim During the autumn season the Tampere Philharmonic will premiere new compositions comissioned from Jouni Kaipainen and Raoul Björkenheim. The still nameless work by the versatil jazz-classic Björkenheim will be heard the 31st of October. 'The Ghost of Buster' by Kaipainen is the first part of a trilogy and will have its premiere the 28th of November. Autumn Season... TPO records Danish violin concerts Chief Conductor John Storgårds gives his orchestra an exciting recording session in October. Three Danish violin concertos will find their way on a CD with Christina Åstrand as the soloist. The composers are Niels Gade, Peter Erasmus Lange-Müller and Rued Langgaard. The audience will hear Gade's concerto the 17th of October during the orchestra's Light&Sound Festival (Valofonia). Take a look at the concert programme. Hannu Lintu Appointed Chief Conductor from 2009 Hannu Lintu is to be the Tampere Philharmonic’s next Chief Conductor, beginning in August 2009. In taking up his new appointment he follows Chief Conductor John Storgårds, whose three-year period ends the same summer. Read more...
