About TRACK4
TRACK4 was a South African group, which is now defunct. The material below was part of the group's official biography when it still existed. October 2001 saw the birth of TRACK4, You can forget middle-of-the-road rock that toes the mainstream line, TRACK4 is here with their in-your-face music, energetic and aggressive live shows that will flip the switch on what you thought heavy South African music was about. The group finished building its platform in 2003. “Hands Down” was voted the best song of 2003 on SAMp3. “Drop and Roll” held the top spot on the NightZoo real time chart for several weeks. And like the graffiti on just about every concrete surface downtown, their achievements force you to squint your eyes and peer a little closer. It's like a string of pearls: they've played nearly all the local big scenes, rocked KZN, won the RP Studios Emerging Sounds demo deal, appeared on compilations, radio play, festivals, a presence of the SA music web rings... Hard-working? It's like chain-ganging! Front man Tyran wears a path up and down the stage, delivering their truly stand-out sound with controlled snarl and menace. As loud and heavy as TRACK4 are, these guys are no high school hooligans. They are tight, channelling their energy to the audience instead of flinging it around randomly on stage. “We love heavy music,” says vocalist Tyran. “We don't see the point in making music for the mainstream, there's too much of a formula. We're doing our music the way WE want to do it. Music is not about numbers to us, it's our every being and drips from our every pore. There’s no toning us down – we’re only getting louder and heavier.” With Frank on guitar and Nick on bass - the band as a whole is a complete polished performance. “It’s been a tough year,” says Tyran “We changed drummers and lost a band room in the process, so our energies have gone into teaching Mike our songs and trying to get a new room all at once, so we ended up losing almost a year in the process. “But things have turned around now. We’ve got ourselves a room and the music is happening again. “And talking about the music, our style has changed substantially. We moved away from the rap thing, because it got old pretty fast, so now we’re focusing more on melody, although the music is heavier.
