About Tómas Þráinsson
Born in 1968 in Reykjavik, Iceland and was brought up on NWOBHM, in particular Iron Maiden and later the Bay Area thrash metal scene. In the early 90's he joined a band that wasn't to be long lived, only one gig to their name and it's successor was equally as poor in the survival stakes. After that he took a long vacation from music and only started playing again after he met his wife and they started playing on the monthly Kosen Rufu (World Peace) Buddhist gatherings in the Reykjavik area. Soon after they started performing together, he started writing his own music, with the intention of adding lyrics to his songs later on. Unfortunately the lyrical inspiration has been rather subdued, but the musical inspiration still lives and should result in a kick start in writing poetry to complement the music. Even though writing music has been going quite well since around 2008, recording has been on hold. The main reason is the lack of funds to enter a professional studio, and lack of equipment to record at home. Finally in the fall of 2012 he finally managed to get his Lexicon Omega to talk to his home computer. Eventually, having failed spectacularly when using Windows XP and Windows 7, he got it to work great using Ubuntu Linux 64bit. The first song published, was the demo The Road to Enlightenment (raw demo). It was recorded using his wife's classical guitar, some poor combo headphone/mic plugged into his Windows 7 laptop and recording with the Windows version of Audacity. The lack of quality is obvious, but the music was interesting enough regardless. The second song is called Litli Úlfur (tr. Little Wolf). The song was inspired by the first 5 years of his son's life, but the son is affectionately nicknamed Litli Úlfur (Little Wolf) following a dream his mother had when he was only 2 weeks old. More songs to follow shortly. The current recording setup for Tómas Þráinsson is the following: Lexicon Omega Epiphone Explorer guitar B.C.Rich bass Ubuntu 12.04 Jack Control to bind everything together Hydrogen for drums Ardour Digital Audio Workstation for recording Rakarrak Guitar Effects Processor for guitar and bass sound Drums Played by Hydrogen, programmed (poorly, due to lack of knowhow) by Tómas Þráinsson Bass guitar played by Tómas Þráinsson Rythm Guitar played by Tómas Þráinsson Lead Guitar played by Tómas Þráinsson Soon more music will follow and hopefully more musicians will contribute to his efforts.
