The new project from Tom House, frontman of much-missed Brighton post-punk outfit Charlottefield, Sweet Williams take the chiming dissonance of their helmsman’s alma mater and drag it through a mile of molasses, before welding the whole sludgy mess together with a noisy, sputtering blowtorch. Vaguely threatening bluesy drone, and moments of surprising beauty, for today’s discerning young thing. -Crack In The Road Abrasive shards of twangy off-kilter angular guitar, discreet longing vocals and powerfully executed, menacing drumming. They do it so well too, even coming off smelling like Eau du Fugazi at times, that burnished intensity and fierceness doesn’t have to be played at pace, just with meaning and ferocity and this UK unit often display such fine qualities. -Norman Records
