About Swami D. R. Parvatikar

Swami Parvatikar was true to his religious belief and as per the ancient Hindu Tradition of different phases in a Man's life, he was 1.Vidyarthi(Student) 2. Grahastashrami(Married with Children and attending to raising the family). 3.Sanyasi ( Taken after completion of duties towards wife and children to take up SANYAS ie; Deep Meditation and seeking self-enlighted alone & away from all material things) and finally 4. Vruddhaashram -living peacefully in his old age. Swami Parvatikar was around 95years of age before passing away. He was a "Rishi" ie; Sage and a "Pandit". He was to my knowledge the only exponent of the very rare, ancient Indian Classical Instrument called the "Vichitra Veena". Vichitra means unusual and the Veena is a similar stringed instrument as the Violin. After a long hard learning stage, he mastered this instrument and was hugely respected in the highest echelons of Indian Classic Music. He recorded many albums and gave stage programs but remained true to his roots. He was also a Philosper whose followers were many. Having seen him perform at events and met him at a personal level , it is an honour to be able to look back at those times. Sadly, I have none of his recordings. He passed away in the late 1970s or early 1980s.
