About Supragod
Short Bio by Jennifer Sjolund (local press 2007) Supragod was originally named Cheerleader and formed in 2003. After three demo recordings ("cheerleader", "perfect pink and the cherry poppers" and "seven nights in Soho") the band had to come up with a new name after becoming the most unpoplular band on the Stockholm scene. - "We got thrown out from the first three gigs we ever did and it never got any better. We couldn't help it. We just happened to have a lot of friends at the time and they were all into destroying things" says lead singer Rille. Cheerleader was stuck with a bad reputation and couldn't get a gig anywhere in Stockholm or Sweden. That brought the band to UK for the first time and a new world opened up - "It was cool to play without having to fight some dude at the same time, music became the centre of the show, not the police" says Jay, guitar player. The UK trip inspired the band but some changes in the line-up had to be made to make sure it didn't go out of control again. - "We went to the studio one day and found our guitar player shitting on its floor, that kinda helped us realize we needed to start thinking about it" says Rille & Jay. In 2005 cheerleader had become Supragod and was playing with todays line-up. The trip to UK became the first out of many and the band is still paying continuous visits to the country they claim to be their second home. In 2005 Supragod got the opportunity to record with legendary producer Tomas Skogsberg (Entombed, Backyard Babies, The Hellacopters Etc.) in his Sunlight Studio. The EP "You Can't Bomb This!" was released and sold a 1000 copies very fast. Both Press and audience was impressed but the band itself was not happy - "It didn't sound anything like we hoped for and instead of recording just a single we did six songs in 24 hours, most of them wasn't even ready to record and in the end we would have been better off without it!" says Rille. But the song "Rock and Roll Idiots" became an underground hit and offered the band numerous gigs all over Europe. - "We couldn't say no so we just kept playing all those unfinished songs gig after gig and there was no time to write any new stuff" says Jay. In 2007 the band finally found a label that was ready to bet on the band but another problem quickly appeared - "They pretty much wanted us to go straight into studio but we wanted to chill out and write new songs, there was no way to make us do the same mistake one more time so the deal was off" - says Jay. Supragod is currently taking a break from all live activities and there's no date set to mark the return of one of Stockholm's finest bands - "we'll be in our studio enjoying rock and roll and drinking beer, or at the clubs making noise to make sure people don't forget about us!" - says Rille & Jay before we say good bye. Supragod line-up: Rille, Vocals/Guitar Jay Decay, Guitar/Synthesizers Danny, Bass/Back up vocals Billy, Drums
