About SuperF111

If any adjective can easily describe SuperF111’s Richard Foster it’s ‘persistent’. Richard was born in Nottingham, England to working class parents who migrated to Australia and lived in many different parts of Victoria, Australia. He was one of four children and had to constantly compete for attention. His family moved around a lot so he became fiercely independent at an early age. He was first exposed to some of the most influencial rock/metal bands of the 70’s, the likes of KISS, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Led Zeppelin and Van Halen. As a result, his first singing experience was as lead singer in an Iron Maiden tribute band! Not an easy task by anyone’s standards but he quickly fell in love with music and being in front of an audience. Richard spent a number of years earning his stripes as a formidable frontman to the likes of The Shining, Warcraft, One and Blue Granite before setting out on his own personal journey writing original songs about his experiences. It’s not so easy to put SuperF111 into a pigeon hole and after listening to only a half dozen songs it’s easy to identify a range of influences from the raw energy of the Foo Fighters, the grunge guitar sounds of Greenday, the melodic vocal tones of U2 and the diversity of Queen or more recently, Linkin Park. “After all the bands I grew up with I don’t think my music sounds like any one of them. I think it’s more a mix of the old and the new. I listen to almost anything these days and can get ideas from the strangest sources, so when people ask me what my music sounds like, I just tell them to listen to it and make up their own minds.” Richard has had his fair share of musical training completing vocal music studies at the Melba Conservatorium of music however his love for alternative/rock music drew him back to the stage. “I’d rather listen to a band that hits you in the guts with their raw energy than a band that plays overly complicated music that’s technically brilliant but has no heart and soul.” SuperF111’s first few recordings show the strength and diversity of their tastes and certainly it’s easy to picture them as major headliners however you could not get anyone more down to earth and in touch with real music fans than Richard. He has established an impressive portfolio without the backing of a label but still sees his best work as yet to be written. “I think most bands develop over time and when I listen to U2’s ‘October’ and then ‘No Line on the Horizon’ it’s easy to see how far they’ve come but that original flavour is there.” Richard writes his music at home and attributes his lyrics to life experiences and things he’s passionate about. “I think the greatest injustice we do ourselves is not realising our own potential.” You only need to listen to a few songs to realise this. SuperF111 is no doubt destined for great things but it’s fair to say that rather than be an overnight success it’s more likely to be a gradual climb. “Most of the great bands of the last few decades have worked hard to earn their stripes and they are still going. When I think about how many years the Rolling Stones have been around and are still going it inspires me. This shows the true strength of genuine artists and I’d much rather have a slow rise than a quick one with an equally quick decline.”
